34,000 euros fine per day per illegal site can not fight our ignorance

140 days left so as all the illegal waste management sites to close forever and be subsituted by the questionable "ΧΥΤΑ". From 01/01/2009 Greece will have to pay fines of 34,000 euros for every illegal site that will remain in existence. The lack of national policy all these years left the country to operate daily more than 3,000 illegal dump sites. The pollution of the Greek Ecosysten due to those illegal sites is of a enormously large scale. Some scientists talk about "toxic bombs" or "cancer sources" and all civilians are agreeing that there is no more patience, no more time. The responsibility for solving this problem is at the hands of the national goverment and of the local mayors. Let us all hope that with the proper coordination and information they will construct the necessary sites and not just another dumping area. Let us hope that they will not postpone the solution for the next generation.
